What is an appropriate age for a mobile phone?

With the release of the iPhone 4s  it got me thinking to as to what age people considered it appropriate to have a first mobile handset. Now you may think how are the 2 related – but I can assure you that there will be children being bought these handsets. There are children aged 5 being bought contracts – that I know of.

So what do you consider to be an appropriate age?

Do you think there are health risks to children under 8 years old using mobile phones?

Do the child’s circumstances effect the age you feel is appropriate?

Is the time when they move up to secondary/high school the most popular age that people agree that it is a suitable time to introduce a mobile to a child?

Are mobile phones a good way to teach children?

What about phones that are aimed at younger children?

Do children as young as this have friends to use the phones with?

Does it matter whether it is PAYGO or Contract or Rolling SIM?

Does it matter which handset?

Would you worry that someone would try to steal your child’s mobile phone?

Would you be concerned about the growing numbers of young (under 13) children on social networking sites – now accessing them through their phones?

Please share your thoughts with me :O)
